Our Shelter-Kit® Green Home Kit can be a major part of your green building project, contributing important points towards certifying your home to the ANSI-NAHB-ICC 700 National Green Building Standard. We have incorporated many special features, designs and materials into our Green Home Kit. We can design a Green Home to meet your specific requirements, including size, style and floorplan. The designs of our Barn-House and Green Home kits are similar. Please visit our Barn-House Photo Gallery for design ideas, and talk to us about your requirements. We will work with you through the entire Green Home planning process, and make it easy for you.
According to the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Green program, "green homes incorporate environmental considerations and resource efficiency into every step of the building and development process to minimize environmental impact. The design, construction and operation of the home must focus on energy and water efficiency, resource efficient building design and materials, indoor environmental quality, and must take the home's overall impact on the environment into account."
We use green approved, biobased materials from renewable and indigenous sources when possible. The kits are designed with exterior materials that do not require on-site finishing, and we use NFRC certified windows. A Green Home is designed with energy efficiency and minimal environmental impact in mind.
While you work with us on the design of your Green Home, you can begin to design and score your whole project by setting up your own Project Scoring Tool, through the "Score My Project" link at http://www.nahbgreen.org and incorporating your Shelter-Kit® Green Home points. You can read the report from our NAHB Certified Green Professional here.
You will be able to work with a local verifier to confirm that your total project meets the standard. You can find a verifier at http://www.nahbgreen.org
