What to look for in a kit       Why Shelter-Kit?

WHY SHELTER-KIT?

Why should you buy a kit building from Shelter-Kit?

We have been in business for more than 40 years-

We have a lot of experience designing buildings to customers' specific requirements.

We have a very clear purpose and mission: to manufacture kit buildings primarily for assembly by owners with no prior building experience.

We provide you with information and assistance to make your project successful.

We offer  free technical support before, during and after your building project.

Unlike other kits, our buildings are pre cut and specifically designed for owner assembly-

They are easy to assemble and are error free.

All of our kits can include a complete, weather tight shell. Customers can chose to delete components, including windows, doors, roofing, etc., and buy those locally.

All materials are selected for quality and ease of assembly and fit. The weight of each piece is limited to what two individuals can handle. The kits are made of individual, pre-cut pieces, and are not "panelized".

The required construction techniques are easy. All joints are designed for an easy fit.

All of the terms in the instructions are easily understandable by amateurs. Our customers will work from our drawings and step-by-step instructions, instead of difficult to read blueprints.

All of our kits are sized and designed so that assembly is not too large a project for non-professionals. They go together quickly.

We use post & beam construction in all of our kits-

Assembly of our post & beam frame is much easier for amateurs, and allows for more flexibility in your interior floor plan, door and window placement.

We only use high quality materials-

We very carefully select each piece of lumber. It is very important to us that each piece is square and true, to make assembling your kit as easy as possible.

We custom design nearly every kit for the customer's specific requirements-

We offer distinct types of post & beam buildings, each of which can be custom designed to meet your requirements.

Each kit is designed for specific uses, as follows:

Barn-House and Green Home kits

The Barn-House and Green Home are our largest house kits, with sizes ranging from 860 square feet to 2,500 square feet, or more, of living space. They are two-story buildings, and are available in models up to 26’ wide models and up to 64’ long. We offer them in “ell” or “tee” configurations, including attaching a garage. We offer gable dormers in various sizes, to allow for more second floor space, natural light and ventilation. They offer a great deal of flexibility in door, window, interior wall and stair placement. They are the least expensive on a per-square foot basis.

The Green Home kit includes special materials and features that differentiate it from the Barn-House.  The Green Home is designed to be a part of your certified green building project.

Unit One

The Unit One is based on a 12'X12', one-story module, that is easy to build and can be enlarged in any direction at any time. We offer Porches, Decks and Enclosed Porches for the Unit One. Unit One owners have combined as many as 12 Unit Ones, some adding modules as many as thirty five years after the original construction, to meet additional space requirements.

Barn/Garage

Our Barn/Garage kits are 1 1/2 or two story buildings, from 16' to 36' wide, and up to 64’ long. We offer Barns in “ell” or “tee” configurations. We offer dormers in various sizes, to allow for more second floor space, natural light and ventilation. Our barns are used for a variety of purposes, including garages, workshops, housing for animals, farm stands, agricultural processing, commercial, etc. The design of this building allows for great flexibility in door, window, and interior post and wall placement.
